Pawparazzi Pets – Interview Set #1

What do stuffed animals and real pets have in common (other than being fuzzy and inscrutably adorable)? One is just a toy and the other is a living, breathing being, right?

Well, they share more in common than one might imagine. As children, many of us create a deep, genuine bond with our plush pets. We love them; we know every facet of their personalities; we talk to them (and they talk back to us). They can truly become a child’s friend and confidant. Sometimes beloved stuffed toys are kept as mementos for a lifetime! When you really think about it, the connection is not all that different from a child’s connection with a real pet. There’s just far less responsibility for a child.

Toki Poki is a community of pet owners who cherish their furry little friends. And now our friends at Pawparazzi have given us some new little pets with big celebrity personalities to embrace!

Planet Pawparazzi Airport

Pawparazzi recently launched a series of interviews on their virtual play world, Planet Pawparazzi, where all of the Pawparazzi “A-list” hang out and connect with friends and fans. Kids (and kids at heart) can join the Pawparazzi Fan Club, play games, talk to their favorite pets, and check-in for fun at the glamorous Hotel Pawparazzi. They can even be part of a celebrity quiz show!

The interview series begins with our very own Toki, after which they’ll be rolling-out a succession of weekly interviews, starting with Surf Dog Ricochet.

So come check-out the new Pawparazzi and re-discover your inner-kid!

King Cooper of San Diego

Cooper - Toki Poki Member #307

Our newest member spotlight is on Cooper the Chihuahua (member #307) from San Diego, CA.

Cooper’s Mom found out about Toki Poki when she bought a kiss from Surf Dog Ricochet (member #281) at an event fundraising kissing booth. Ricochet was giving out her Toki Poki trading cards… and soon after, Cooper was online with his Mom joining the Toki Poki community and having his personalized trading card created. Cooper now has 4 different trading cards available!

Cooper, nicknamed KING COOPER, is a very active 3 year old service dog who loves going out with his Mom, especially to the Padres Baseball games and Sea World. He could give a kangaroo a run for its money – this little guy is FASSSST! No wonder he wanted a “Racing for Rescues” trading card!

Cooper is a huge participant in his community! He visits all of the dog friendly parks, local events & attractions, local pet shops and restaurants, and he always stops to say hi and make new FURiends everywhere he goes!

Toki Myhre and King Cooper became friends on Facebook last year and who would have known that they’d eventually meet and share a fun-filled day together in San Diego last month. Here are some photos of the two of them having fun!

Jetta Rose Needs a Home

We’re catching up on Member Spotlights and they all come from one little quiet street in Toluca Lake, CA…

After returning to Los Angeles from our cross-country trip at the end of last year, Toki and I had the pleasure to meet and get to know our neighbors while we were staying with friends. We met Joey (member #287), a handsome little chihuahua who fell madly in love with Miss Toki. She’s never had an admirer before so she did what many women would do and pretended to ignore him (see for yourself). Thanks Virginia and Joey for your great hospitality – we miss you!

Neighbors - Joey, Mimi, Brindle and Jetta Rose

We also met Brindle (member #254) and his pal, Mimi the pig (member #266). Brindle and Toki had a rough start, since Toki insisted on running underneath Brindle while making the most aggressive gargling sounds you’ve ever heard (this would be her Napoleon war cry used when she’s intimidated by larger dogs), but it must have worked because any time she saw Brindle after that day, he ran the other way. Mimi, on the other hand, let Toki know she was the boss and to stay away from her dogloo. Mimi and Toki share a trick in common…they both spin for treats, although Mimi moves just a little slower. Brindle and Mimi belong to our friend Debi Derryberry, a popular children’s entertainer and the voice of Jimmy Neutron. If you have a chance, you should listen to her song, “My Dog’s My Buddy.” Toki gives it 2 paws up!

And then there was Jetta Rose (member #279), a beautiful Papillion/ Dachshund mix staying with her foster family next door. Jetta Rose is the ONLY dog that Toki has ever backed away from! It was unusual to see her behave this way but enjoyable to witness since Toki is quite the bully if given the opportunity. I think she wasn’t quite sure how to react to Jetta’s back legs, which she sometimes seemed to use and sometimes struggled with. I often wonder if my little monster actually knew Jetta’s story of recovery! Jetta Rose’s determination has allowed her to walk again and now she’s ready for a fur-ever home! Please watch the video and share with your friends! THANK YOU!

SurFUR Girl Ricochet

Surf Dog Ricochet

This month the Member Spotlight is on Toki Poki member #281, Ricochet the SURFice dog!  Ricochet surfs to help raise awareness for animal (and human) causes, in contests and just for fun! If you would like to watch Ricochet in action (and get her Toki Poki trading card!) she will be surfing in Dana Point, CA on November 13th and 14th at the Best Day Foundation’s “Best Day at the Beach” event (read the full event press release below).  If you can’t make it to the event, you can watch Ricochet catching waves in some of her YouTube videos.  Click Here to watch

Ricochet was also just nominated for a Humanitarian Award of by The American Dog magazine. She was nominated in three categories:  Spokesdog for a Charitable Cause, Service Dog who Gives Unconditionally, and Role Model Philanthropist.  Click here to vote for Ricochet!

You can read all about Ricochet at her website www.surfdogricochet.com.

And a bit of trivia about Ricochet… she’s Big Bird’s sister!  (Well, not exactly.)  If you’ve seen the pictures from our recent Howl-o-Ween Costume Contest, you may have wondered “who’s the dog with all the feathers and a beak?”  That’s member #282, Rina, Ricochet’s sister.  Rina was our 1st Runner Up in the contest!   Here’s what she looks like as a bird and as a dog…

Ten-Second Goofy

10 Second Goofy
If you live in San Antonio, TX and you happen to notice a road biker with furry, pointed ears, don’t be mistaken! That’s our Toki Pokimember #3, Goofy! Since Goofy first joined us, he’s become a real biking enthusiast and like most dogs, loves the wind in his face. He now jumps in his backpack the minute he sees his owner geared up for a ride.  He’s not only a biker, he got his nickname from his 10 second pass down the dragway. Goofy might be all of 5 lbs…but he’s one tough little dude and all the girls go “goofy” over him!
